Random Acts of Kindness

At the LEGION, we have always been a scrappy self-reliant organization.

Sometimes, you need a little help from your friends. Sometimes, random acts of kindness go a long way to brighten people's days or months. If you do not ask, you cannot receive--and that was the case when we started running low on hand sanitizer a few weeks ago. After trying to source some from traditional markets, we found that the availability was scarce, and the price of what was available was not adding up. Then we remembered how local Santa Rosa icon Cannacraft had set aside portions of their manufacturing facility to produce hand sanitizer for essential businesses. We decided to reach out to our friends in the industry to ask if they could get us a quote for our needs. The answer that we received was:

"No charge, keeping the community safe, and helping out a fellow essential business is payment enough."  - Ned Fussell Cannacraft Founder

We were floored and are deeply grateful for this gesture, but we were not surprised. Cannacraft is an exceptional organization full of solid individuals with heart and integrity who genuinely care about the work they do. Receiving help was a great reminder that through all the trials and tribulations we're going through as a community, we are all in this together.

The hand sanitizer story is not the only act of kindness that has transcended this ordeal. Countless organizations and individuals have stepped up to support their community during this time of struggle. This is but one simple act that has touched us deeply, and we wanted to share it with you.

Curious About How YOU Can Give Back to Your Local Community During the COVID-19 Crisis?

It does not have to be a grand act. Small, simple gestures go a long way to brightening people's day. For example, by helping children create stained glass windows with inexpensive sidewalk chalk, your family can make your neighbors smile when they're out for their daily fresh air excursions. Another easy way to pay it forward is by going through your clothes and asking yourself: "Do I wear this anymore?" or "Do I really need this?" and then make a collection of perfectly good things to donate. As the saying goes, one man's trash is another's treasure.

An added bonus is that purging old things can be a rather liberating exercise, remembering the simplest life is usually the best life.

If you have the means, go bigger and pay it forward by ordering pizzas from a local establishment and have them delivered to healthcare workers on the front lines. Buy a gift card for your favorite restaurants now, even if you do not plan on using it until things get back to normal. Or support them now by ordering to go and having a special meal at home because I know we are all getting tired of the same pasta dish every night. :)

Remember, there is light at the end of this tunnel; patience, kindness, and gratitude will be the virtues that will get us through this darkness.

As always, thanks for the continued support!
