Solventless Terpenes:

Perfecting the Art

of the

Cannabis Essence

Ancient Alchemy in Present-day Cannabis Craft

At Legion of Bloom, we value the flavor and the experience of our products above all else. Established in 2015, Legion has stayed dedicated to providing you with the highest quality THC cartridges and cannabis flowers for the past seven years.

With all the recent focus on solventless extracts, we figured we would take some time to highlight the solventless process we use to craft our highly awarded Monarch Vape Cartridge line.

We have been extracting terpenes from cannabis using solventless terpene distillation methods since 2015. This discovery led to the development of our flagship product, The Monarch, a line of cartridges that uses our terpenes infused in cannabis extract. Since then, we have gone on to win numerous awards with his product line for the quality of our terpene extraction. Including top honors at the Emerald Cup 3 years in a row. Over the years, we have honed our craft and technique to scale the process to keep up with our growth without sacrificing quality. We feel our water-clear terpenes are the best in the business, and we have the hardware to back up that claim.

Before we dive into our extraction process, let's first define solventless.

What is Solventless

solventless \ ˈsäl-vənt-ləs without solvent

A solventless extraction is an extract produced without the use of a solvent.

Common solventless extracts are bubble or water hash and rosin.

Bubble hash, also called water hash, uses water and ice to mechanically separate resin glands from cannabis.

Rosin is a mechanical process using heat and pressure to extract oils from the resin glands of either fresh or dried cannabis flowers or water hash.

Our proprietary method is a low-heat extraction process using water and pressure to capture the full essence of a cannabis strain. Though not a new process, it has been around for over a thousand years, though we have made a few improvements over the years.

A History of Steam Distillation

The history of alchemy and distillation is over 5000 years old. Throughout the years, renowned chemists, doctors, and philosophers of their day have made many innovations and improvements in the distillation process. These scientists were instrumental in refining and redefining the techniques for creating essential oils, mineral acids, and alcohol.

The Egyptians may have been some of the earliest known alchemists to extract aromatic oils for perfumes and essential sacramental oils. These primitive extracts were most likely made by steeping plants in hot vegetable oils or animal fats.

Babylonian alchemists in Mesopotamia used crude distillation forms as early as 2000 BC. While Greek alchemists from the 1st century AD used distillation to produce spirits and, due to the growing demand, would see the development of large-scale distillation apparatuses later that century. It would not be until the 11 century that modern steam distillation was invented by the Persian chemist Ibn Sina, known as Avicenna in the west. His findings greatly improved the extraction of aromatic constituents from plants, marking the birth of modern essential oil creation and cementing the role of terpenes in everyday life.

Standing on the shoulders of our ancestors, we apply these same principles of alchemy to our solventless terpene distillation extraction. We take their practice a few steps further by using new technology and techniques, continuing the unbroken chain of innovation in the space.

Our timeless essential oil distillation is how we bring you the floral bouquet of all the notes found in pristinely cured exotic cannabis flowers.

How we use our Cannabis Terpenes

Our solventless terpenes are used in many applications. One way we have used them is to create our terpene-infused sparkling water, which we call Terp Champagne. But where the terps can shine the most is by infusing them into cannabis extracts to provide a strong entourage effect to an otherwise racy and/or scattered THC high.

As we all know, terpenes are the backbone of the cannabis experience. They add more than just the amazing flavors we love. They allow us to find and enjoy the nuances of feelings we get from different strains.
